Bespoke kitchens

Every kitchen starts as a survey and a drawing and ends as a set of labelled parts cut on our own machines, two miles from where they were drawn. In-frame, shaker or handleless; painted to a colour you choose or in Egger board; fitted by our own team or delivered to yours.

What goes into one

Carcasses in 18 mm Egger board, with Egger Perfectsense fronts where you want a matt or gloss slab door, or sprayed MDF where you want a painted in-frame or shaker door. Face frames, doors and panels are cut on the CNC and jointed properly — mortice and tenon on the traditional frames.

Drawer boxes are solid oak or ash, dovetailed, on Blum runners. Hinges and runners are Blum or Häfele; handles are whatever you have fallen for, from a plain brass cup to a Buster + Punch bar. We fit Häfele Loox lighting into cabinets, plinths and shelves, and GOLA rail where you want a handleless kitchen with a clean top edge.

Worktops in quartz, porcelain or Dekton come through our fabricator partners and are templated once the cabinets are in. Laminate tops and matching upstands we do ourselves. Appliances and taps — NEFF, Siemens, Bosch, Quooker — can come through our trade accounts or you can supply your own.

Four kitchens

Westhoughton

An in-frame kitchen, wall to wall

A full in-frame kitchen for a couple in Westhoughton who came to us direct, having had the room drawn up elsewhere first. We measured it ourselves, drew it again, and issued elevations their electrician and the stone templater could work to.

The tall run is the piece everyone remembers: full-height larders with cornice and pelmet, and the American fridge framed by a column of wine-bottle cubbies on each side. The island has three cupboards, panelled ends and a seating overhang. There are eleven dovetailed solid oak drawer boxes in it, including the ones inside the larder, plus a corner pull-out and a tall pull-out spice and bottle rack.

Two details we were pleased with: a sliding door that hides a standard, non-integrated washing machine, and bespoke skirting run to match the kitchen and carried through into the dining room next door. Supplied, delivered and assisted through the fit rather than fitted by us.

Monton

Two pantries, a mantel and a drinks cabinet

A dual-colour in-frame kitchen: ivory pantries against charcoal base cabinetry, worked up through eight design revisions with clients who were benchmarking us against a national brand the whole way.

The doors and panels are cut from solid MDF in one piece with a bead detail, so there is no joint line between stile and rail. Both full-height pantries are oak-lined; one carries solid oak spice racks on the doors, cut from parametric CNC code so we can make the same rack to any size again. There is a mantel canopy over the hob, a glazed display cabinet, a drinks cabinet with an integrated wine cooler, and a Belfast sink run under the window.

Fifteen solid dovetailed drawers, Häfele Loox cabinet lighting, and 30 mm pure white quartz throughout.

Culcheth

A charcoal kitchen and the bar next door

A new build being fitted out by the family who built it — and by their own joiner, who was copied in on the design from the first draft. We drew it, priced it and made it; they fitted it. Six revisions of renders before anything was cut.

Twenty-five kitchen units, a painted oak mantel over the hob, a bespoke oak dining island with shaker panel detailing, and a bar of seven units in the next room with custom corbels along its front. Doors, stiles and rails are solid oak throughout with veneer panels; the top mouldings to the tall and wall units and the skirting to the base units were both chosen from oak profiles.

The detail is where a drawn kitchen earns its money: the bookend units beside the hob came down to 264 mm so an 800 mm drawer unit would fit under it, the bin unit got a 10 mm scribe at the back, and the deep pan drawer under the sink was cut out around the pipework rather than fought with on site. A Shaws of Darwen Shaker 800 belfast sink and a Ribble monobloc tap finish it.

Lowton

A dual-colour kitchen and a drinks bar

Cream cabinetry with a navy island — “dual colour” is the client’s own phrase for it — with a thick white quartz top and buttoned velvet seating, and bifolds straight out to the garden.

Across the room a glazed drinks dresser with a dentil cornice, mirrored back and lit glass shelves does duty as a bar. The same house had a range mantel with a name engraved into it on the CNC before the frame went for priming, and we made timber windows for it as a separate package.

A repeat client: we had already built a kitchen, a home bar and a sapele entrance door for the same family a few years earlier.
